As it is possible to build a new town in 56,000 ropanis out of 100,000 ropanis, the committee has upheld the decision to halt land plotting as it is. The Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) has recommended approving new town development plans for Kageshwori Manohara Municipality and Shankharapur Municipality of Kathmandu District, Bhaktapur Municipality, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality and Changunarayan Municipality of Bhaktapur District. The KVDA has already prepared a detailed project report (DPR) of the new towns to be constructed in five municipalities.
According to Minister Jhankri, it has been decided to recommend to the Council of Ministers to release 44,000 ropanis of land out of 100,000 ropanis reserved for the new towns. “We have decided to send the matter to the Council of Ministers as the plotting of the land has been stopped for many years,” she said. “Issues related to the people cannot be stopped like this for years. Even after being presented to the Cabinet, there are many places to discuss this issue. However, we have decided not to do anything that will prevent us from moving forward.”
The government had decided to build new cities in four areas of the Kathmandu Valley on May 7, 2017. The government had decided to withhold 100,000 ropanis of land. The meeting of the committee has also recommended sending the new eastern urban plan of Kathmandu to the Council of Ministers for approval.
