Recent rain-induced disasters claim 53 lives in Nepal: NDRRMA

As of now, four people in Rasuwa and one in Ilam are missing in the floods.

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: A total of 53 people lost their lives so far in the rain-induced disasters that occurred last week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) confirmed.



Spokesperson of NDRRMA Shanti Mahat said that 40 people died in landslides, 11 others in floods, and the remaining two were struck by lightning. 


Mahat said that Ilam alone lost 38 lives in landslides and one each in Panchthar and Kavre districts.

Likewise, two each in Udayapur and Dhanusha, and one each in Ilam, Panchthar, Khotang, Bhojpur, Morang, Sunsari and Rautahat districts died due to flooding, the NDRRMA stated.


As of now, four people in Rasuwa and one in Ilam are missing in the floods. 


The NDRRMA shared that 47 people have sustained injuries during the period. 


Spokesperson Mahat shared that discussions were ongoing to ensure temporary settlement, rehabilitation, and relief for disaster survivors.
