RCT climbs to second

KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Bansbari Club stunned NRT 3-2 in the Martyrs Memorial B Division League match at ANFA Complex on Sunday. In other matches of the league, Shree Kumari played a draw while RCT registered impressive victory. 

In the first match of the day, league leader Shree Kumari Club snatched a point after playing a 1-1 draw with Samajik Youth Club. Bhuwan Basnet's seventh league goal in the 78th minute put Samajik ahead in the match. As Samajik was about to produce an upset result, its hopes of taking home all three points were shattered as Prajwal Thapa Magar scored an equalizer for Shree Kumari in the 4th minute of injury time. With the draw, Shree Kumari took a one-point lead over second-placed RCT, which has 20 points after the completion of tenth round matches of the league.

In the second match of the day, NRT's chance to go top of the table was halted after a 3-2 defeat by Bansbari Club. Bansbari took an early lead in the second minute with Bivek Gurung's goal as he scored capitalizing on confusion between goalkeeper and defender in the NRT box. NRT then equalized in the 37th minute with Sushil Lama's goal and scored another after two minutes to make the scoreline 2-1 as Birendra Thapa got his name on the scoresheet.

As the match seemed to be heading toward the end with NRT on the lead, Bansbari got an equalizer as Shikhar Upreti scored in the 88th minute. The match took different turn when NRT's Raj Kumar Ghising was sent off for his second yellow and a freekick was awarded just outside the box. Arik Bista scored a beautiful freekick in the third minute of stoppage time to help his side register the important victory. After producing third win of the campaign, Banbsari is now seventh with 13 points.

In the third match of the day, Ranipokhari Corner Team registered a 3-0 win over Boys Union Club and moved to second position on the table. Bike Tamang opened the scoring for RCT in the 40th minute while Shekhar Limbu doubled the lead in the 71st minute. Bike's second goal of the match in the 80th minute confirmed RCT's victory.
