RAUTAHAT, Sept 25: Rautahat District Court has issued an arrest warrant against Sumit Rauniyar, chairman of Pappu Construction.
The move comes after families of victims filed a complaint against Pappu Construction after a boat capsize in Lalbakaiya River that killed four of the 29 peoples onboard in Rautahat on August 25.
Locals had said that failure to complete the bridge construction by the company had forced people to cross the river by boat. In turn, they had demanded the contractor to be accountable to the deaths.
The government had inked an agreement with Pappu Construction to build the bridge by June 27, 2017 on November 15, 2014.
Following the incident, locals as well as district authorities have come heavily on Pappu Construction. Deputy Mayor Kiran Thakur of Gaur Municipality also came down heavily on Pappu Construction. “If the government is really concerned about lives of the locals, it should take stern action against the contractor for their negligence,” he said.
Likewise, Shambh Shah, youth leader of Nepal Communist Party and a local of Gaur, said the government should question the proprietor of Pappu Construction on why they did not complete their works on time.
