KATHMANDU,
Rato Machhindranath's chariot procession is starting today. The chariot will be pulled from Pulchowk today. Rato Machhindranath's rath (Chariot) yatra (procession) is considered to be the longest procession in Lalitpur. It is customary to pull the chariot in and around Lalitpur during this procession.
The general public celebrates the Jatra by inviting relatives for a grand feast during the course of the Jatra. This Jatra is celebrated for about two months from Pratipada (the first day of the lunar fortnight) to Asar Shukla Chauthi (fourth lunar day) under the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon period) of the month of Baisakh.
