KATHMANDU, Jan20: Departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC)’s Ratnajit Tamang has reached the final of 39th National Badminton Tournament under National Sports Council (NSC) defeating Far-western’s rising player Prince Dahal on Friday.
At the Covered Hall of Far-western in Mahendranagar, the 19th seed Dahal won the first set tallying 15 points against top-seed Ratnajit and led the second set 15-14 before getting injured on the court. Army shuttler then came back into the match and won the set 21-15. In last and decisive set, Prince had to leave the match and conceded a defeat to Ratnajit at 8-3.
In second semifinal match of the day, Armed Police Force (APF)’s Deepesh Dhami defeated TAC’s Navin Shrestha on straight sets of 21-13, 21-9. Dhami will face Ratnajit in the final.

In women singles, Army’s Nangsal Tamang will face APF’s Siksha Shrestha for the title. Nangsal defeated APF’s Shova Gauchan 21-13, 21-11 whereas Shiksha overcame Army’s Amita Giri 22-20, 21-15.
In men’s double, Army’s pair of Ratnajit and Navin will face APF’s Deepesh Dhami and Bijit Thapa Magar. The Army pair defeated APF’s Sajan Krishna Tamrakar and Sudeep Sedhain 21-15, 21-15. Similarly, APF pair registered match figures of 22-20, 21-17 on their way to defeat Army’s Suroj Maharjan and Praful Maharjan to seal their place in final.
In women’s double, APF’s Puja Shrestha and Shiksha Shrestha defeated Army’s Amita giri and Rasila Maharjan 21-9, 21-8 to book a place in final to meet Army’s Nangsal and Anumaya who defeated Purbanchal’s Jessica Gurung and Sunaina Mukhiya 21-15, 21-19.
In mixed double, Nangsal and Ratnajit’s partnership delivered another final encounter for Army against APF’s Bijit Thapa Magar and Shova Gauchan. Army pair defeated APF’s Sajan Krishna Tamrakar and Shiksha Shrestha 21-18, 21-11 whereas APF pair overcame their own department’s Deepesh Dhami and Puja Shrestha 21-14, 16-21, 21-18.
