RAPE

RAPE

On a pleasant night with chilly wind, there was a girl in unbearable pain and shouting out loud with hope of getting help. The sound came from a small hut where some goons resided. Everybody gathered at a distance from the hut listening to the girl’s shouting. Unfortunately none of them had enough guts to go and help the girl, though everyone knew and could imagine what was happening inside the hut.

RAPE, a word used to describe an lawful sexual activity and unusually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person’s will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness or deception has become quite popular in these days of twenty first century.

Even after doing rapes, the criminals are walking on the roads with no fear and the government servants i.e. police are also not doing anything. There are loop holes in the laws and constitution of the country which help in the easy escape of the criminals. Moreover, people who do rapes are found to be of high posts having more power, some of them are the relatives of high command officers and some having high networks.

When the senior officers themselves are involved in this kind of crimes, how can a country progress as an anti-social crime nation? In the context of Nepal, the number of cases related to rape has been kept on increasing day by day and year by year. The number of cases related to rape registered in 2073/74 BS was 1,093, in 2073/74 it increased to 1,137 and where as in the year 2074/75 it has increased to 1,480 excluding many of the cases which have not been registered.

A society is not possible without women; Women are no secondary human beings. The existence of human beings is impossible without women. We should give respect to women which they deserve. One of the famous philosophers also said that, “Women are the real architects of a society" which is indeed very true.
