TANAHUN, Jan 22: Chief of ward-8 of Shuklagandaki Municipality has surrendered to the police after two months in hiding, following an accusation that he raped a local woman.

A woman from the same ward had filed a complaint on November 22 against ward chief Krishna Regmi at the Area Police Office (APO), Belchautara, accusing him of raping her repeatedly.

Following the accusation, the police had issued an arrest warrant against Regmi.

According to Inspector Siddhi Bikram Shah of the District Police Office (DPO), Tanahun, they have started investigation into the case by remanding Regmi in custody.

Inspector Shah informed that Regmi would be punished as per the law if he is proven guilty.
The woman had initially filed a complaint at the judicial committee of Shuklagandaki Municipality on November 19.

However, the committee could not give her justice due to lack of authority.

Hence, the case was forwarded to the police. As stated in the complaint, Regmi had raped the woman not just once but time and again by showing various temptations.

Earlier on November 2, some youths from the woman's side had attacked Regmi leaving him injured.
Following the attack, Regmi had remained out of contact.
