Rape accused escapes from police van on the pretext of vomiting

JANAKPURDHAM, Feb 27: One of the accused of rape case jumped from the police van of the Area Police Office, Sabala and escaped the police custody. 

Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Dhanusha, DSP Ved Prasad Gautam said that the accused jumped from the van at Yadukuha at 7:30 pm while he was being taken to the Area Police Office, Sabaila after extending his judicial remand from the District Court Dhanusha on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Rajababu Mukhiya, a resident of Sabala Municipality-13, Kiratpur of Dhanusha, who was arrested in the rape case, jumped from the van and escaped.

According to the police, four detainees were taken from Area Police Office, Sabala to the district court on Sunday to extend their remand. "On the way back, Mukhiya asked the police to stop the vehicle stating that he felt like vomiting," DSP Gautam said.

DSP Gautam said that the search for him has been intensified since last night.

Earlier on January 29, six prisoners escaped after breaking into the custody cell of Sakhuwa Mahendranagar area police office. Four of them have been arrested and sent to jail. Two have not yet been arrested.

Three policemen were suspended in that incident. Assistant Police Inspector Ashok Mandal, Police Constables Saroj Regmi and Rohan Magar have been suspended in connection with the incident. Similarly, 26 policemen working there have also been recalled to the District Police Office, Dhanusha.
