Ranikot an attraction for domestic tourists

BHAKTAPUR, Jan 14: Ranikot at Suryabinayak Municipality ward number 7 of Bhaktapur has been emerging as one of the top destinations for domestic tourists. The specialty of this place is that it is located at a high altitude, and provides a scenic view of the Kathmandu Valley.

The place can be reached via Araniko Highway to Suryabinayak Bus Stop to Pilot Baba’s Ashram and Ghyampe danda. It is only seven kilometers away from Suryabinayak. After people started visiting Pilot Baba’s Ashram and Ghyampe danda for family retreats, Ranikot situated on the top of the hill gained popularity for its natural beauty. People mostly come here for relaxing and picnic purposes, especially during Saturdays and other public holidays.

Ranikot also has a culturally significant site — Bagh Bhairav that is situated 200 meters to the west of Ranikot. Bagh Bhairav is named after the natural stone that is found here in the shape of a tiger. The locals have built a temple here so that people can visit the place. Then there is Ranikot Gadhi View Point a few meters away from here.

Almost half a dozen restaurants, hotels and resorts have been established in the area due to the gradual increase in the number of people visiting Ranikot. This area links Bhaktapur to Kavre where you can find settlements of Tamang and Newar, among other communities.
