Rame takes six-stroke lead after third round

KATHMANDU, March 30: Rame Magar extended lead to six strokes after the penultimate round of Surya Nepal Kathmandu Open on Thursday at the par-68 Royal Nepal Golf Club in Kathmandu. 

Rame played one-under 67 for 54-hole total of five-under 199 to take six-stroke lead over Bhuwan Nagarkoti and Shivaram Shrestha. Bhuwan carded one-under 67 and Shivaram carded two-under 66 for the third day total of one-over 205.

Surya Prasad Sharma is fourth at two-over 206. He carded four-over 72 on Thursday. Sanjay Lama, Dhana Bahadur Thapa and Bhuwan Kumar Rokka are tied at fifth with the third day total of three-over 207. Sanjay scored one-over 69, Dhana one-under 67 and Bhuwan Kumar four-under 64.

Rame started the day with birdie and added another in the fourth hole. But he dropped shots on the third and sixth hole for an even-par 34 on the front nine. In the later half he carded one-under 33 with birdies on the 11th and 13th holes against bogey on the 16th. 

Bhuwan played two-over 36 on the front nine and three-under 31 on the back nine. He dropped a shot each on par-three fifth and sixth hole and saved shots on other holes of front half. In the later half, he birdied on the 10th, 11th and 18th holes while saved pars on other holes. 

Nepal number one pro Shivaram carded one-over 35 on the front nine with birdies on first and fourth holes against bogeys on third, seventh and eighth holes. On the back nine half, he made birdies on 10th, 13th and 15th holes for three-under 33.

Surya Prasad started the day with an eagle on the first hole and played one-over 35 on the front nine and three-over 37 on the back nine. 

Bhuwan Kumar Rokka scored one-over 35 on the front nine and five-under 29 on the back nine with hole-in-one on the par-three 12th hole. Sanjay carded three-over 37 on the front nine after he dropped four shots on par-three third hole and two-under 32 on the back nine. Similarly Dhana scored even-par 34 on the first half and one-under 33 on the second.

Phuntsok N Lama leads the amateur section with total score of 13-over 217. He carded one-over 69 on Thrusday. Sukra Bahadur Rai who played five-over 73 is at 15-over 219. Tanka Bahadur Karki who carded five-over 73 at 17-over 221.

The final round of the fifth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016/17 season will be played on Friday. The event carries a total cash prize of Rs 500,000. The winner will walk home with check of Rs 85,000 while second and third place finishers will get Rs 58,000 and Rs 45,000 respectively.

Top 21 pros will have share in the cash prize.
