KATHMANDU, March 26: Abiral - The Arts Group Nepal on Saturday organized drama performance and panel discussion on ‘Accountability Issue of Spinal Cord Injury related Disability’ at Nepal Orthopedic Hospital, Jorpati, with an objective of promoting accountability and spreading awareness about disability.

Around a week ago, a theater workshop was held with 14 participants with spinal cord injury. The workshop identified major accountability related issues in different areas such as physical and social structure and environment, education system, lack of proper implementation of policies and laws, health services and health complication.

And, Saturday’s theatrical play named ‘Thulo Aawaj- Louder Voice’ was based on the issues identified during the workshop. The play was performed in front of a 100-strong audience.

The play was followed by a panel discussion. The panelists included Pemba Lama, Ratna Devi Gurung , Harka Bahadur Rawal,  Julia Chitrakar and Dr Hem Nath Aacharya.

Questions regarding implementation of existing policies that talk about disabilities, specifically spinal cord related disability, were raised during the discussion.

Along with their response to the questions, the panelists made personal and institutional commitments.
