Rabi Lamichhane registers his candidacy in Chitwan-2

CHITWAN, April 3: President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane has registered his candidacy for the post of Member of the House of Representatives in Chitwan Constituency-2.

He reached the District Election Office, Bharatpur at 10:15 am and registered his candidacy for the by-elections to be held on April 23.

His proponent is Sita Gyawali, Chairperson of Bharatpur Metropolitan City of RSP and Bikram Shrestha, Chairman of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Ward No. 11, is his supporter.

By-elections are about to be held in Chitwan 2 after the Supreme Court dismissed Lamichhane's position in the citizenship dispute. Lamichhane won the election on November 20 with an overwhelming majority of votes.

While he won with 49,261 votes, his nearest competitor Umesh Shrestha of the then state minister of Nepali Congress got 14, 983 votes. Again, Lamichhane is embroiled in a controversy related to passport misuse.

In the elections to be held on April 23, Nepali Congress leader Jeet Narayan Shrestha, Ram Prasad Neupane from UML, Jeev Lal Puri from RPP and Vice Chairman Janakraj Sharma from Rastriya Jana Morcha are also running for the election.

Nominations have been registered for the by-elections today. The time to protest the candidate's claim is tomorrow. They can withdraw their candidature till April 5. There is a schedule to publish the final list of nominations on April 6. There are total of 1, 24, 695 voters in Chitwan Constituency-2. There are 43 polling stations and 138 polling stations.
