KATHMANDU, June 25: Parliamentarian from Nepal Communist Party, Yogesh Bhattarai has lobbied for quality development measurement indexes against quantity allocation.
“We must be able to speak with facts, numbers and data, not in terms of budget that has been allocated,” Bhattarai said adding that these indexes would help to realize the country’s development in all the three tiers.
Applauding the role of private sector in development after 1996 AD, Bhattarai however cautioned, “Despite its contribution, gap between the rich and the poor has widened and now stands at almost 24 per cent.”
He also expressed reservations with the budget allocations and highlighted dissatisfaction, not only from opposition party, but also from those in the party itself. “No one is happy with the budget—from parliamentarians to local governments to citizens. What this means is we need to clearly understand our priorities and formulate strategies accordingly to materialize development,” he said.
