KATHMANDU, July 21: Dairy producers in Pokhara have expressed dissatisfaction over the attempt of state-owned Dairy Development Committee (DDC) to make investment in the lake city.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Pokhara Dairy Association (PDA) said that the DDC's preparation to set up a plant and distribute dairy products in Pokhara was against the the findings of a government committee made public four years ago. In its report, the committee had said that the DDC need not intervene in the dairy market of Pokhara.

"Four years ago, a government committee clearly stated that the state-owned dairy need not make investment in Pokhara. But news reports say that DDC is preparing to enter Pokhara. It has drawn our attention," the statement added.

Officials of PDA have argued that the dairy market of Pokhara has already reached a saturation point with 17 milk processing industries in operation.

Stating that billions of rupees have been invested by private dairies in Pokhara, PDA has urged concerned authorities to stop DDC from entering the market.
