KATHMANDU, June 20: Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) on Sunday announced the date for the Pulsar Sports Award 2072 and also signed a five-year contract extension with main sponsor Hansraj Hulaschand and Company Pvt Ltd.

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu, NSJF President Mahesh Acharya informed that the award ceremony will be held on July 21 in Kathmandu.

The organizer informed  that it will award sports personalities in various eight categories - male and female player of the year, youth player of the year, coach of the year, popular player, best para-athlete, special award and lifetime achievement award.

The winners of male and female player of the year and popular player of the year will get a Pulsar motorbike each along with other prizes, while winners in the remaining categories will each receive Rs 50,000.

Meanwhile, Acharya informed that NSJF has formed various sub-committees to make the award ceremony a grand success.

“We have formed various committees for the award ceremony and one of them is players' selection committee which will be responsible for nominating players and other sports personalities in various categories,” said Acharya.

According to Acharya, the estimated cost of the event is Rs 3 million.

NSJF is holding the annual sports event after one year gap owing to the devastating earthquake of last year which claimed more than 9,000 lives.

“We did not want to celebrate at the time when the country was in pain due to the devastating earthquake. So we decided to postpone the award ceremony and also the chief sponsors suggested the same,” added Acharya.
