Pulchowk thumps Samajik, climbs to third

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Pulchowk Sports Club recorded second win in a row with a 4-1 rout of Samajik Youth Club while Bansbari Club and Khumaltar Youth Club shared points playing 1-1 draw during the Martyrs Memorial B Division League football tournament at the APF ground in Halchowk, Kathmandu on Sunday .

Kamal Thapa put Pulchowk ahead in the 37th minute but Subash Tamang leveled the score in the 55th. Ashis Gurung restored Pulchowk's lead in the 66th minute and Purna Gurung widened the goal margin in the 75th. Milan Gurung sealed the victory with a fourth goal for Pulchowk during the fading moments of the match.

Following the result, Pulchowk climbed to third position with six points from two wins and a defeat. Samajik, yet to open scoring in the points table is at the rock bottom after three matches. New Road Team (NRT) leads the table with seven points.

In the day's first match, Binod Gurung gave the lead to Bansbari with a 27th minute goal. Thakur Shrestha hit back the equalizer for Khumaltar in the 52nd minute with a spotkick.

The draw puts Bansbari level on points with fifth-place Madhaypur Youth Academy with five points. Khumaltar lies in the 12th position with one point in the 14-team contest.

Earlier, on Saturday, NRT overcame Boys Union Club 2-1 to maintain its unbeaten run and moved on top of the table. Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) shared points with Madhyapur Youth Association following a goalless draw on the same day.

Following Saturday's outcomes, NRT and RCT are level on top of the table with seven points each. NRT, however, holds the upper hand by the virtue of better goal difference. Madhyapur stands fifth with five points and Boys Union has earned three points. All of them have played three matches each.
