Nepal Republic Media has come a long way since its establishment in 2009.  We started our journey in the 'pursuit of truth' at a time when the country was going through difficult times.  The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) had swept the 2008 Constituent Assembly elections, which paved the way for the most inclusive lawmaking body in the history of Nepal.

There was euphoria on one hand and fear that the CA would not be able to draft the new constitution on the other.  The first four years of the first CA witnessed intense debate on a number of constitutional and political issues.

To everyone's dismay, the CA was dissolved without fulfilling its key mandate, raising the specter of uncertainty on both the political as well as constitutional fronts.  The second Constituent Assembly elections were held in 2013. This was, in hindsight, a turning point in Nepali politics.

The second CA has been instrumental in delivering the national charter based on which we have held three levels of elections. And we now have governments at all three levels-local, provincial and federal. The country and people have suffered a lot over this long process. Government instability remained a key feature. We have had nine governments in the last nine years.

The country witnessed all sorts of misrule and impunity during these years. And virtually every ill was justified by political leaders as a byproduct of transitional politics. This state of affairs should no longer obtain in the days to come. Now that we have completed a full circle-from uncertainty to instability to this present phase-the country's attention should be focused on achieving the goals of national prosperity and development.

Since the time this media house was born, we have been constantly bringing out stories about people that are often sidelined and ignored. During the first CA, we advocated  and raised our voice for constitution drafting.  We continued to advocate  peace, the resolution of political and constitutional conflicts through dialogue, stability, rule of law and the national interest. We did not give up on these causes even during the most difficult times of the blockade in 2015/16.

Now that the country has seen the formal end of the transitional phase and has laid down a solid framework for prosperity and development, we will push for this cause, whatever the challenges there may be along the way. We have a sincere belief and confidence that the political class will not let the people down this time round.

We believe that our  job is to champion free speech, safeguard the fundamental rights of the people and uphold a free and fair press. On that note, we extend hearty greetings to our readers, advertisers, well-wishers and the people, on the occasion of the commencement of our 10th year and Loktantra Diwas!
