KATHMANDU, June 13: The government has increased public transportation fare by 12% to be effective from June 16.
The government's move comes amid pressure from the transport entrepreneurs to increase the public transportation fare.
Information Officer at the Department of Transport Management (DoTM), Tirtha Raj Khanal, told Republica Online that the public transportation fare has been increased by 12% as per the recommendation of a government panel.
"We decided to increase the fare as prices of mechanical parts of vehicles and fuel and labor cost have increased sharply in recent times," Khanal said.
“With the hike in transportation fare, now the people have to pay minimum Rs16 for a travel of up to four kilometers. Earlier, the public had to pay a minimum of Rs 14 for the same.
