Public-private talks must for policy reforms: Koirala

KATHMANDU, May 8: Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala has stressed on need to bring about policy reforms in order to create business doing environment in the country.



“Both public and private sectors should focus on reforming required policies and practices in the country in order to lure fresh investment," a press statement released by the finance ministry quoted Koirala as saying in a public-private dialogue (PPD) held in Kathmandu on Wednesday.[break]



Highlighting the importance of Nepal Business Forum (NBF), an institutional mechanism to generate PPDs in the country, Koirala said NBF can play an effective role to push for reforms. "The establishment of NBF Independent Secretariat is an achievement in itself,” Koirala said.



Suraj Vaidya, president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said the private sector was always ready to work on expediting policy reform process.



"There should be a strong coordination among the private sector organizations to make PPDs more effective,” the statement quoted Vaidya as saying in the statement.
