Public holiday in Karnali Province today to observe Province Establishment and Martyr’s Day

SURKHET, Aug 20: The Province Establishment and Martyr's Day is being observed in Karnali Province on Thursday.

The provincial government has announced a public holiday today on the occasion. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of the province, Tul Bahadur Khadka said that a Cabinet meeting of the Karnali Province government decided to mark the 4th of Nepali month of Bhadra every year as the Province Establishment and Martyr’s Day.

Four persons had attained martyrdom participating in the movement for the establishment of the Karnali Province in mid-July to mid-September back in 2015. They were Yam Bahadur BC, Tikaram Gautam and Gopal Singh Rajwar of Surkhet and Hari Bahadur Kunwar of Jumla. The then government had announced those persons killed in the course of the movement as martyrs and the movement was concluded following the fulfilment of demand of the establishment of a separate province.
