POKHARA, Nov 12: In a bid to manage the city, Pokhara Metropolitan City is preparing to construct a bus park.

Construction of Pokhara Bus Park, which was planned some 35 years ago, will be constructed in co-ordination with the provincial government and the Town Development Fund, according to the metropolitan city.

Earlier, the bus park was planned to be constructed at Prithivi Chowk. In 1975, Pokhara Town Development Committee had acquired a total of 205 ropani land for the construction of Pokhara Bus Park. After the construction of Prithivi Highway, the size of the land was reduced to 187 ropani.

After the land was encroached by landless squatters, its size got reduced to a mere 25 ropani.

According to the municipality, the proposed bus park will be a province-level bus park. “The area is suitable to construct the bus park. The metropolitan city has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of the bus park, an official said.

According to a source, the metropolis can't construct the bus park without loan support from the Town Development Fund. “So, the metropolitan city is constructing the bus park in co-ordination with the provincial government and the Town Development Fund,” the source added.

“The DPR of the project is almost ready. It will be finalized within a few days,” said Laxman Timilsina, personal assistant of Pokhara's Mayor Man Bahadur GC.

As per the DPR, the bus park will be constructed in 84,949 sq meters. The bus park will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.42 billion. The bus park can hold up to 200 buses.

Likewise, the parking lot of the bus park will hold 36 cars, 44 micro vans, and 80 two-wheelers.
