KAPILVASTU, April 13: Province 2 and Sudurpaschim Province have dominated in the men’s and women’s wrestling under the Eighth National Games held in Kapilvastu on Friday.
In men’s category, Province 2 won a total of six gold medals and three silvers, while Sudurpaschim claimed a total of six gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze.
Sudurpaschim also won two silver medals and four bronzes in men’s category.
Also, the departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club won a total of four gold medals and three silvers. It won one gold and a silver in men’s category, and it also claimed three golds and two silvers in women’s.
Likewise, Province 5 won two silvers and three bronzes in women’s category, while Province 1 claimed one gold and six bronzes and the other departmental team Nepal Police Club garnered four silvers and six bronzes. Also, Province 3 grabbed two silvers and one bronzes, and Province 6 claimed only one bronze.

Hockey
Police has registered its second straight win in men’s hockey. At the Mangal Prasad School in Nepalgunj, Province 3 was defeated by Police 3-0 courtesy of a brace from Roman Rana and a strike from Rajendra Karki.
In other matches played on the same day, Gandaki Province and Province 1 shared the spoils of a 1-1 draw. Rajan Nepali gave a lead to Gandaki in the 39th minute, while Arjun Khadka equalized in the 51st minute.
Province 5 saw off Karnali Province 7-0 to register its second straight victory as Mohammed Sheikh and Manish Gurung bagged a brace each, while Aman Kumar, Sonu Lama and Rabi Kanta Kumar added a goal each.
Table tennis
The Police pair of Santoo Shrestha and Nabita Shrestha won a gold medal in mixed doubles of table tennis.
In the final match, the Shrestha pair beat Police’s Binesh Baniya and Alina Maharjan 8-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-4.
The other departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Purshottam Bajracharya and Sikka Suwal along woth Army’s Bodhit DC and Dikshya Tamang became third.
Basketball
Province 3 has registered a victory in the men’s basketball.
Province 3 defeated Province 5 94-48 to register its first victory in the tournament with national team captain Sadhish Pradhan accumulating the highest 26 points.
In other matches of the day, Province 4 beat Province 1 79-49 with Jimen Pun of Province 1 scoring the highest 15 points, APF defeated Karnali Province 92-32 with Rupesh Nami scoring the highest 14 points and Army saw off Province 2 with Army’s Anish Basnet adding 19 scores.
Lawn tennis
Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) Team’s Samrakshyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Army’s Pranab Khanal have advanced into the men’s singles semifinals of lawn tennis.
In Butwal, Bajracharya saw off APF’s Jitendra Pariyar 6-4, 6-0, while Khanal beat Army’s Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya 6-1, 6-1.
In the other matches of the category, Province 4’s Pradeep Khadka overcame Nabin Magar of the same province 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, while APF’s Santosh Khatri got past Province 5’s Bhishma Kauchha 6-2, 6-1.
In women’s singles, Army’s Ira Rawat beat Province 3’s Prakriti Shrestha 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, while Army’s Abhilasha Bista defeated Gandaki Province’s Ganga Sharma 7-6, 6-2. Likewise, APF’s Prerana Koirala overcame APF’s Anne Mathema 6-2, 6-2, while Province 3’s Rayana Shah beat Gandaki’s Shreya Bhattarai 6-1, 6-1. The winners reached the last four.
