LAHAN, May 26: With the objective of leading underprivileged and marginalized communities toward the path of development and progress, a provincial level Dalit conference kicked off in Lahan on Friday.
Though 'prosperity' has been a common topic of discussion among the government, political parties and stakeholders, nothing concrete has been done to uplift the social and economic status of Dalit communities.
As per the organizers, the discussion of the conference will be centered on the participation of Madhesi Dalits in development works.
Karnali CM Kandel calls an all-party meeting to discuss overall...
This conference which is being organized with the joint effort of Dalit Welfare Forum (DWF), Nepal and Dignity Initiative will take place for two days. According to Bhola Paswan of DWF, the reach of
Dalit people in various social, economic and administrative sectors will be discussed in the conference.
He further informed that nine Dalit parliamentarians of Province 2 along with other high profile members will be participating in the conference.
Prosperity and development won't matter to the Dalit community as long as their problems are not addressed, according to Dalit leaders. On the first day of the conference, stakeholders discussed about Madhesi Dalits' accessibility to infrastructures.
On the second day, discussions will be held on the representation of Dalits in politics.
