Province 2 announces additional assistance to acid-attack victims

JANAKPURDHAM, Sept 25: The province 2 government has expressed its sadness over the death of Samjhana Das of Chandranigapur of Rautahat who was severely injured in an acid attack on September 11. The government has also announced additional compensation to the bereaved family. 

Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut announced to provide more Rs 300,000 to the Das family as the compensation and to assist in the treatment of Samjhana’s younger sister Susmita who suffered the acid burns along with her. 

Earlier, the provincial government had decided to provide Rs 100,000 to the victims’ family. The Chief Minister said he individually and the provincial government was very sad that the life of Samjhana could not be saved, expressing the commitment to guaranteeing better treatment of Susmita. 

He had already directed the authorities concerned to ensure stringent action against the guilty in the crime and take all necessary measures not to let such incidents reoccur in the future. 

Acid was thrown on Samjhana, 18 and Susmita,16, as two sisters were asleep at their home at around 11:00 pm on September 11 and the police have already arrested their neighbor Ram Babu Paswan, 45, on the charge of his involvement in the crime. Samjhana passed away in course of treatment at a Kirtipur-based hospital, Kathmandu Sunday night and Susmita is being treated at the same hospital. RSS
