A subsidiary to a multinational banking company, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal donated Rs 3,722,500 to Maiti Nepal, a social service organization on July 26.

The donation was made under the bank’s sustainability initiative – ‘Futuremakers by Standard Chartered’ to support Maiti Nepal’s project of producing low cost sanitary napkins. According to a press statement released by the bank, the donation will work on empowering girls and women through the napkins that promote safe menstrual hygiene at the affordable cost.

Biswo Khadka, Chairman of Maiti Nepal was handed over the sum as the funding for the production project. At the same event, a total of 20 laptops were handed over to facilitate young children’s education of Maiti Nepal.

“Futuremakers by Standard Chartered”, is the bank’s global initiative to tackle the issue of inequality. The initiative seeks to promote greater economic inclusion for young people in the communities by supporting them in education, employability and entrepreneurship as per the press statement.
