Project: Nepal Bhasha for cultural promotion

KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Project: Nepal Bhasha, a joint initiative of four LEO clubs operating in the Kathmandu Valley, started from Saturdayin an attempt to raise awareness about Nepal Bhasha and its cultural aspects among the youths.

The initiative was inaugurated with a screening of ‘The Legend of Shankhadhar: Shankhadharya Baakhan’, an animated movie about Shankhadhar Sakhwa—a philanthropist and a national hero who is believed to have introduced Nepal Sambat.

The screening was held at Ason and was organized by LEO Club of Kantipur, Kathmandu. The movie will also be screened at Maru, Patan and Bhaktapur smultaniously in the days to come, according to the organizers. The three-month long initiative is being coordinated by LEO Club of Kantipur Kathmandu, LEO Club of Manigal Global, LEO club of Bhaktapur Golden Gate and LEO of Bishal Bazar and in partnership with Nepal Lipi Guthi. 

According to Project Coordinator Pujan Tuladhar, “The Project will not only highlight the importance of Nepal Bhasha but also of all indigenous languages and cultures of Nepal.”

With an orientation program on the Project on Sunday, the organizers are scheduled to offer language classes for Prachalit Lipi on October 30-November 17), Ranjana Lipi on November 19-December 29 and Nepal Bhasha on January 2– 26, 2018 where one can enroll for a minimal cost. The classes will be run in Tyauda (Kathmandu), Mangalbazar (Lalitpur) and Inacho (Bhaktapur).

The Project will conclude on January 27, 2018 with an official program and free screening of a documentary ‘Reviving Nepal Bhasa’.
