Progress of Diktel water project sluggish

KHOTANG, Nov 21: Although the construction works of the Diktel Urban Drinking Water and Sanitary Project in Majuwa Gadhi Municipality, Diktel, started more than six months ago, the progress of the project has been slow than expected.


The construction of the drinking water project started on March 28, 2019, but it has seen a progress of only 9.5 percent till date. According to Bhola Prasad Chaudhary, engineer at PEA-BAN JV Construction - a consultant company, the progress of the project has is less than 10 percent.

The project was started with the aim of supplying clean drinking water to 1,049 households in the region. The project was initiated with 70 percent investment from the government and 30 percent from the consumers committee. 


According to Dhana Kumar Joshi, president of the consumer committee, it will be completed by next September. The project is expected to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 272.6 million. The contract of the project was bagged by Ashish Construction Service Company.


Two water treatment plants are under construction at Tinbote and Alchedhunga under this project. Likewise, two water tanks are also under construction at Thamkhore Danda and Hath Danda. Apart from this, an 18-kilomter long pipeline is also under construction.


Meanwhile, the consultant company claims that the construction of the project is taking place on time. The government will spend Rs 190.8 million, while the consumers committee will spend a total of Rs 81.8 million for the project. The consumers committee had collected 5 percent amount from the households, while it took 25 percent loan from the Town Development Fund. The project will provide 75 liters of water to each household of the region.
