BIRGUNJ, Dec 28: A high-level committee of the government has visited the site where a massive fire broke out at Super Gas Industry in Birgunj Sub-metropolis-18 of Parsa district last week, killing two firefighters.
"We visited the factory and have gathered the necessary data and facts after talking to various groups, including the people of the gas factory," said the committee's coordinator Kumar Prasad Dahal, who is also the director general of the Department of Supply Management and Protection of Consumers Interest under the Ministry of Supply.

According to him, the committee would publish its report within four days. "At this time, I can only say that technical lapses and human error caused the fire," added Dahal.
Dahal said the inferno at the Super Gas Industry tells the need to monitor all the gas bottling companies and ensure that they are following due safety measures.
"We also visited other gas bottling firms. Some of them are built nearby roads and too close to settlements. If similar fire incidents occur at those firms, there will be high casualties," he said. "That is why we need to adopt preventive measures on time."
"If we see the condition of Nepal's gas bottling firms, around 75 percent of them do not meet the safety criteria and need to be closed," added Dahal.
