ILAM, Aug 28: The District Prison Section Ilam is overflowing with prisoners who are outstretching its full capacity.
The prison – established initially as a rehabilitation center – has the capacity to hold 125 prisoners but currently in crammed with 268 prisoners.
With double the number of prisoners than its capacity allows the prison currently faces problems of drinking water, sanitation and health care. There are 240 male prisoners, 24 women and four juveniles.
Prison Section Chief, Sirjana Luintel, said the prison is placed in a best environment in the district and should have no problem if it accommodated prisoners that its capacity can withstand. RSS
