Prez visiting Myanmar and Japan, PM Oli visiting Azerbaijan

Kathmandu, Oct 15: President Bidya Bhandari is paying a state visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar from October 16 to 20 at the invitation of the President of Myanmar U Win Myint, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). 

During the visit, President Bhandari will hold bilateral talks with the Myanmar president. Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will also call on President Bhandari. President Bhandari will meet the citizens of Myanmar of Nepali origin in Pyin Oo Lyin. She is also scheduled to visit Bagan, a UNESCO world heritage site, according to a press statement issued by the MoFA on Monday.

Highly-placed sources said President Bhandari will fly to Japan from Myanmar on October 20 to attend the coronation and enthronement ceremony of Japan's new emperor scheduled for October 22. 

Sources said President Bhandari is visiting Japan at the invitation of Japan's Emperor Naruhito. Some six month ago, Emperor Akihito had announced to abdicate the throne. He stepped down from the throne on April 30 this year.

Similarly, Prime Minister KP Oli is also leaving the country to attend the 18th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement being held in Baku of Azerbaijan on October 25-26, sources at MoFA said.

Foreign Ministerial Meeting of the NAM is scheduled for October 23-24, while Foreign Secretary level meeting will be held on October 21-22. Nepal will be assuming the chair of the NAM movement for next three years after the 18th Convention.
