KATHMANDU, Dec 24: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has stressed that political parties must reach an agreement and come up with a solution on the National Assembly Election Ordinance.
Prez Bhandari said so to Upendra Yadhav and Rajendra Shrestha, chair and vice-chair of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal. Last week, the President had urged the same to Pushpa Kamal Dahal and KP Sharma Oli, and on Friday, a meeting of five major political parties failed to reach consensus on the same.
“I cannot alter the constitution and law and the issue must be resolved through talks,” Prez Bhandari said. Political parties have been approaching the President for a solution. A dispute between Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML over Single Transferable Voting System and Multiple Transferable Voting System has delayed the President’s authentication of the Ordinance.
