KATHMANDU, Aug 24: President Ram Chandra Paudel has wished for happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepali brothers and sisters in the country and abroad on the occasion of Gaura festival.
Extending best wishes on the occasion of Gaura festival today, President Paudel has said the festival specially celebrated in Sudurpaschim has played a significant role in strengthening geographical, religious, cultural devotion and mutual harmony. The festival begins from Bhadra Krishna Panchami of the Nepali calendar and lasts for four days.
"There is a belief that if people fast and worship Shiva and Parbati on this occasion, they will get happiness and peace", he added.
The message reads, "On the occasion, locals gather and share each other's sorrow and joy through Deuda, Dhamari and Chait in a folk language. This is believed that the festival would reunite the separated couples, and strengthen the relationship of husband and wife."
President, Vice-President extend best wishes on Gaura festival
President Paudel also expressed the confidence that the Gaura festival would inspire all Nepalis for mutual understanding, sustainable peace and increasing ideas of national unity.
In a similar message, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has expressed good wishes for good health, happiness, peace, prosperity and progressive progress of all Nepalis living in the country and abroad on the occasion of Gaura festival.
"Unity in diversity is our original national identity. Gaura festival is also included in that identity. Everyone should be able to absorb the religious, cultural and historical significance of this festival and imbibe its positive message", Vice President Yadav has said in his message.
He has expressed his belief that the festival would contribute to strengthening our social, cultural and geographical diversity. He wished that the Gaura festival could motivate everyone to forget anger, animosity, disorder, conflict, malice and instead exchange good wishes with mutual happiness and harmony.
Similarly, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has expressed his belief that the Gaura festival would further strengthen social unity and cultural integration.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of Gaura festival today, he said that Deuda played with reference to the festival and other cultural activities during this period also enriches the cultural importance of Gaura.
"The tradition of gathering all the members of the society and celebrating it collectively as the major festival has played a special role in making social relations alive with social harmony, communal unity and mutual cooperation", he has said in the message.
Prime Minister Dahal has expressed his belief that such festivals will contribute significantly to giving a real sense of the federal democratic republic of Nepal, which has multi-ethnic, multilingual and multicultural characteristics.
Stating that with the increasing impact of urbanization and migration, the festival is being now celebrated with equal importance not only in the Far West but also in various parts of the country and abroad, he has expressed his best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity and continuous progress of all Nepalis on the occasion of Gaura festival.
Gaura is celebrated as one of the most important festivals in the Sudur Paschim and Karnali region of Nepal and Kumaon, Garhwal region of India.
