KATHMANDU, April 2: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stressed the need to fulfill the national resolution of 'Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali' by prioritizing and increasing the contribution of the energy sector to the economy by making power generation, consumption and export management effective.
Inaugurating the Himalayan Hydro Expo organized at Kathmandu on Saturday, President Bhandari said that the era of load shedding ended in Nepal just a few years ago after importing electricity and shared that the long-term solution to the problem would be to produce our own energy.
On the occasion, President Bhandari said that the construction of transmission lines for electricity trade to China and India has also started and expressed confidence that there would be a competitive environment for investment in the development of this sector in the country.
President Bhandari also urged the private sector to intensify the campaign to light up villages by investing in small and medium hydropower projects. President Bhandari said that as it would take time to complete a large hydropower project, it would not be able to supply energy immediately.
