This will pave the way for the formation of provincial assemblies as the Election Commission (EC) will have to first submit the results of the provincial assembly polls to the provincial governors. The government will then administer the oath of office and secrecy to the senior-most member of each provincial assembly, who will later administer the oath of office and secrecy to other members of the provincial assemblies concerned.
The provincial assembly will then elect speaker and chief minister to carry out day-to-day governance activities of the concerned province.
The government on Wednesday decided to appoint provincial governors on the basis of a power-sharing deal among the ruling parties. The meeting recommended Prof Govinda Subba as governor of Province 1, Ratneshwar Lal Kayastha as governor of Province 2, Anuradha Koirala for 3, Baburam Kunwar for 4, Umakanta Jha for 5, Durga Khanal for 6 and Mohan Raj Malla for Province 7.
