KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Press Council Nepal (PCN) has taken action against 45 media outlets for violating the code of conduct in the last six months. One of them has been blacklisted.

Deputy Administrative Officer Ram Sharan Bohra, who is also PCN's Co-Spokesman and Information Officer,  said in a statement that action has been taken against the media that transmitted content that is against the code of conduct.

Of the total 28 media that spread content against the code of conduct, two of them have been instructed, six of them have been alerted, 11 of them have been warned and four others have been asked to furnish explanations. Similarly, five web portals have been sent letters to prevent transmission within Nepal.

According to the statement, correspondence has been made to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) to block 16 unregistered web portals on similar complaints.

Similarly, the PCN has sought a 24-hour explanation from the provincial daily Khabar Dainik published from Tanahun. The daily was allegedly involved in transmitting materials that influence the case under consideration in the court.

The PCN has blacklisted iofnepal.com, which has repeatedly posted material against the journalists’ code of conduct.
