KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has accused President Bidya Devi Bhandari of trying to make the Citizenship Bill a big political issue.

While interacting with journalists in Pokhara, Chairman Dahal said that during the discussion with President Bhandari a few days ago, he gathered that she had the desire to make the Citizenship Bill a big political issue.

He pointed out that the President now has no exemption from certifying the bill if sent by parliament for the second time and warned that if she does not certify the bill, she might have to resign. He said that after both houses of parliament pass the bill, the President must certify it according to the Constitution.

Chairman Dahal expressed his anger saying that the then KP Sharma Oli-led government had verified the Citizenship Bill without thinking about it when it was brought forward and asked why it has not done so now. He said that he is confident that the President will authenticate the Citizenship Bill this time.

Chairman Dahal said that seats will be distributed among the ruling coalition parties for the upcoming elections according to a deal. He claimed that today's meeting will decide the seat distribution.
