KATHMANDU, April 17: President Bidya Devi Bhandari flew to New Delhi on Monday for a five-day state visit to India at the invitation of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

President Bhandari was received by Indian Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Raj, Nepali ambassador to Indian Deep Kumar Upadhyay and Indian ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri upon her arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, according to a press statement issued by Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.

The president's delegation from Kathmandu comprised Minister for Foreign Affaiors (MoFA) Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Sita Devi Yadav, Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, advisors to President and other officials of the Government of Nepal, and mediapersons. 

The visit is yet another important event in the continuation of high-level engagements between the political leadership of the two countries. The Visit will contribute to further consolidate close and friendly relations that exist between the two countries.    

On the first day of the visit on Sunday, President Bhandari is scheduled to attend a welcome function organized at the Embassy of Nepal with the Nepali community living in India. She will also attend a reception dinner organized by the ambassador of Nepal to India in her honor. Ministers and other officials of the Government of India, political leaders, and members of the diplomatic community based in New Delhi are among the invites at the reception.

Chief Minister of New Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and leaders of various political parties of India called on President Bhandari on Monday.
