KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has expressed dissatisfaction over President Bidya Devi Bhandari's address to the Global Security Initiative (GSI) conference organized by the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) on Wednesday. According to MoFA, the President addressed the conference against Nepal's foreign policy of not being involved in any security umbrella.

President Bhandari addressing the GSI conference against Nepal's foreign policy has been called an immature decision by some experts in diplomatic affairs. They believe that this is a violation of the non-aligned foreign policy that Nepal has been following. The recorded video of President Bhandari's address was broadcast at the GSI conference on Wednesday.

When President Bhandari was requested to participate in the conference, the government advised her not to attend the event as it was linked to the Chinese security umbrella and would be detrimental to Nepal's foreign policy. However, President Bhandari ignored the request by government officials and addressed the GSI conference through a recorded video.

Meanwhile, in Bhandari's video address, it is said that Nepal will not participate in any military alliance. She mentioned that Nepal has adopted a non-aligned foreign policy. The government agencies, including the MOFA, have not formally given any information about the program in which President Bhandari participated virtually.

Although it is customary for the MoFA and the President's Office to formally inform about the programs addressed by the Head of State, this has not been done. This also indicates that other government agencies are dissatisfied with the President's participation in the program related to the Chinese security umbrella.

The tussle between the government and the president is increasing as the citizenship bill passed by parliament was not certified by the president. In the meantime, President Bhandari ignored the government's suggestions not to participate in the GSI conference against Nepal's foreign policy and participated in the program, which has increased the conflict between the president and the government.
