Preparations underway to build cinema halls in all districts: Minister Karki

KATHMANDU,

Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Gyanendra, Bahadur Karki has made a commitment to develop the Nepali film sector as a unique industry. Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the Film Development Board on June 30, Thursday, Karki who is also the government’s spokesperson, said that the ministry is preparing structures related to the film industry as per the objective of developing the film sector as a specialized industry.  

Minister Karki said that the perks and benefits of the filmmakers would be enhanced and the region would be developed as an attractive and opportunity area for them all. He said, “The work of building cinema halls in all 77 districts will be completed soon with the use of recently developed technology in the film sector and preparations for the same are being made."

Minister Karki said that the film industry plays an important role in building a prosperous country along with economic, social and cultural development. He stressed the need for economic development of the country so that the present generation can be promoted as the richest generation in South Asia.

Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and IT, Dr Baikuntha Aryal said that discussions are underway to screen foreign language films at home with the objective of promoting Nepali films internationally. He appealed to pay attention to the production of quality movies in accordance with the wishes of the viewers by conducting adequate studies. Member Secretary of the Film Development Board, Tanka Mahat said that with the initiative of the board, the subject of film related contents is being included in the curriculum of high school.

In the program, 'Best Employee Award-2020' was given to Office Assistant Hari Bahadur KC and Assistant Kharidaar Sirjana Rayamajhi. Along with the award, the prize money of Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 was provided to them, respectively.

Similarly, the ‘Best Employee Award’ for the year 2021 was given to Assistant Kharidaar Renumaya Lama and Ranjan Adhikari along with the prize money of Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000.

The board has given special film identity cards to 62 filmmakers including Bhuwan KC, Dr Bhola Rijal, Sanu Kumar Tamrakar, Rajaram Poudel, Shiva Dhakal and Kiran Kumar KC.
