Preparations in final stage for local elections: PM

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said the government is in the final stages of preparations for the much-awaited local elections. 

At a programme held by Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction on the occasion of International Day of Peace here, PM Dahal stressed on need for forging unity between country's mountainous, hilly and Terai regions for strengthening country's internal national unity. 

"Nepal's peace process started in a traditional fashion and we concluded the important task of army integration and arms management in an easy and traditional way. Now we should not delay in concluding the remaining works of the peace process," he said. 

Laying heavy emphasis on the importance of not promoting impunity, PM Dahal vowed to book those involved in crimes of serious nature. 

On the occasion, the PM shared his belief that the peace and reconstruction work will move forward in a way to create reconciliation in society as per the ideology on transitional justice in practices around the world. 

Peace and Reconstruction Minister, Sita Devi Yadav, said the government has been doling out economic assistance to the victimized side for peace management in the country while rehabilitating the conflict-stricken after the signing of Comprehensive Peace Treaty (CPT). 

Ministry's Secretary, Suman Prasad Sharma, apprised the participants of the works carried out by the ministry till date and also spoke of how crucial establishment of peace was in the country for sustainable development and prosperity. 

Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Chairman, Surya Kiran Gurung, and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons Chairman, Lokendra Mallik, demanded social justice to the conflict-stricken in order to make the peace process result bearing. 

'The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace' is the slogan for this year's International Day of Peace celebration. RSS
