KATHMANDU, May 31: The preliminary hearing on the writ petition filed against Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, is scheduled to begin from today. The petitioner has claimed that Lamichhane is unfit to be an MP even though he was elected again from Chitwan-2.
A writ petition filed at the Supreme Court last week maintains that Lamichhane did not complete the process of regaining his Nepali citizenship. The petitioner has argued that the officials concerned received a copy of the old citizenship without submitting the proof of Lamichane’s decision to relinquish his US citizenship.
Another petition has also been filed against Lamichhane, who was elected through the by-election held in Chitwan-2, demanding the cancellation of his MP's post for not completing the process of re-acquiring citizenship.
