KATHMANDU, March 1: According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, pre-monsoon has started across the country with the end of the winter season.


According to Meteorologist Manju Basi, the pre-monsoon season which started from March 1 i.e. today will last for three months. He said that the pre-monsoon period will last until May, after which the monsoon will begin.

During the pre-monsoon period, thunderstorms/lightning along with squalls and hail are likely in the afternoon, the meteorologist said. It is said that the influence of local winds during this weather system is high.


Due to the influence of local winds, there is a possibility of light rain in one or two places in the hilly areas this afternoon, according to Meteorologist Basi. She said today there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in one/two places of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces.


According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there has been less rain in winter this year than in 14 years. At the end of the winter season, there was light to moderate rain in some places including Kathmandu and Pokhara a couple of days ago. According to the department, there was low snowfall in the high hilly and mountainous districts this winter.
