KATHMANDU, May 4: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to reduce the duration of power outage effective from Sunday.  Issuing a press statement on Saturday, NEA said that it is going to impose an eight-hour power outage in a day from Sunday.

Although NEA informally cut off the duration of load-shedding in the Kathmandu valley few days back, it has formally announced to limit the power outage to eight hours in a day from Sunday.[break]

As per the power outage schedule published by NEA, there will be four-hour load-shedding in the morning and four-hour in the evening.

According to the NEA, period of power outage in the places facing maximum electricity leakage will be increased as per the leakage ratio.

Although, there is demand for around 1,000 megawatts electricity in the country every day, NEA has been able to supply only 580 megawatts.

Increasing level of water in rivers due to the melting of snow at their sources and regular import of electricity from India have led to the reduction of load-shedding hours. Nepal is importing 170 megawatts electricity in a day from India.

Similarly, measures taken by NEA to control power leakage has helped reduce the load-shedding hours. NEA said the duration of power outage will be lessened again once the maintenance works on the Kulekhani II (hydropower project) were completed.
