KATHMANDU, May 5: The then Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai initiated road expansion in 2012. Years later, expansion and construction of roads is sluggish.Politicians claim otherwise.

12 km Chabahil-Jorpati-Sankhu road expansion was expected to complete on December 2017.The condition of the road in this section has worsened from the past week since the pre-monsoon came into effect.Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project (KVRIP) claims that the delay is largely due to locals who’ve filed a writ at the Supreme Court demanding proper compensation.

While it gets difficult to navigate the road when it is waterlogged, locals and commuters suffer when it is dry as well.According to doctors, air pollution is increasingly becoming a source of problem in Kathmandu. The 2018 World Health Organization’s new report states air pollution affects 9 in 10 people and kills 7 million every year.Unless issues are resolved, the 12 km stretch is unlikely to compete anytime soon.
