Police seizes nine tippers including two JCBs being operated for illegal mining in Sarlahi

RAUTAHAT, Jan 14: Sarlahi police have arrested nine tippers and their drivers along with two JCBs while they were being operated for excavating and loading gravel sand in the Lakhandehi River located in Lalbandi Municipality 1 of Sarlahi on Friday evening.  

The police arrested 31-year-old driver Jeevan, Dhana Bahadur Lama 52-year-old driver and Saroj  Puri 33-year-old driver of Hetauda sub-metropolis 19, Milan Thapa, 31-year-old driver of Manhari Rural Municipality 7, Ayush Praja, 31-year-old driver of Manhari Rural Municipality 4, Suresh Praja, 34-year-old driver of Manhari Rural Municipality 4, 27-year-old driver Amir Ansari of Hetauda sub-metropolis 10, 25-year-old driver Bishal Sapkota of Nijgarh Municipality 4 of Bara and 42-year-old driver Koindra Koirala has been detained.

Similarly, Sarlahi Police arrested 39-year-old Ganesh Neupane of Kankai Municipality 2 of Jhapa District and 35-year-old Santosh Kumar Chaudhary of Dhangadhi Municipality of Siraha along with their JCB according to DSP Bijay Yadav, Information Officer of District Police Office Sarlahi.

DSP Yadav said that the JCB and tipper and all the drivers were taken into custody and kept in Lalbandi at the local police office.

After the appointment of SP Naresh Raj Subedi as Sarlahi police chief, there have been efforts to crack down cross-border smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal weed cultivation and crusher industries operating illegally. Similarly, police have increased surveillance on illegal mining and transportation.

Locals say that the smuggling of stones, gravel and sand from Nepal to India has also decreased. Sarlahi Police Chief SP Subedi said that they are working with zero tolerance against crime.
