KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Police seized 711 kg of marijuana from a jeep in Saptari on Saturday afternoon.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Saptari, a team of police personnel led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Hemant Kumar Tamang from the Mauwaha Police Station seized the contraband at 1:30 pm from Bodebarsain Municipality-3, around 100 meters east of Bihul Bridge, during a routine check on two vehicles.

After inspecting the vehicles en route to Bodebarsain Municipality-2 from Chanhiwat, police found multiple bags of marijuana in them. “While unloading the marijuana, one of the jeeps with an unconfirmed registration number sped away from the police check, evading arrest, while the driver of the other jeep fled,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jitendra Kumar Basnet, spokesperson for the DPO, to Republica.
The Scorpio jeep with registration number Pra 1-02-002 Cha 5834 has been impounded. Police found 30 bags of marijuana weighing 711 kilograms inside the vehicle. DSP Basnet stated that further investigation into the marijuana bust is currently underway.
