BIRATNAGAR, April 11: Police and victims of the Koshi flood clashed on Saturday afternoon at Pashchim Kusaha, in Sunsari, along a section of the East-West Highway. The clash ensued after the agitating flood victims, who were staging a demonstration to press the government to meet their list of seven-point demands, started throwing stones at police personnel who were on their way to Saptari after providing security during the by-elections held in Morang district.

According to Sunsari District Police Chief Rajendra Shrestha, as the protestors turned even more violent, the police resorted to baton charging the protestors and lobbed three rounds of tear gas cells. But members of the Koshi Flood Victim Struggle Committee refute that version of the story. They say that the police fired dozens of rounds of tear gas cells. Over half a dozen flood victims were injured during the clash, three of whom are currently undergoing treatment at Sunsari District Hospital, Inaruwa.
