Special Bureau of police arrests nine with guns and explosives
KATHMANDU, Oct 24: With the arrest of a member of Mongol Mulbasi Rastriya Force last week, police have uncovered plans of possible terror attacks mainly targeting Kathmandu Valley and some other places of Nepal.
Last week, Metropolitan Police Range Office, Bhaktapur had arrested 43-year old Sachindra Palungwa of Panchami VDC-3 of Paanchthar district with possession of two pistols, explosives and other handmade arms along with party-related documents.
Based on the information gathered after the arrest of Palungawa, a joint operation carried out by the Special Bureau of Nepal Police and Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office, Ranipokhrai, arrested additional eight cadres from different places of the eastern Nepal.
A police source requesting anonymity said, “Preliminary investigation of the joint operation has found that the underground party had made master plan to operate several criminal activities under the pretext of fulfilling their political demands.”
However, top cops were not ready to talk to the media regarding the arrests citing that the operation was still underway.
“We are investigating the case and our team is preparing to make the suspects public only on Monday,” AIG Pratap Singh Thapa, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office, Ranipokhari, said.
The arrested have been remanded to police custody under arms and ammunition act. Police also denied naming the others arrested during the operation. Preliminary investigation showed that the party has had no long history and was not registered with the Election Commission.
