Police constable injured as firing goes off at Lankuribhanjyang

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: A police constable sustained injuries in a firing that went off at Metropolitan Police Sector, Lankuribhanjyang on Friday night.

“Police constable Roshan Shrestha sustained bullet injuries to his left-side of his face in a firing that went off suddenly when Assistant Sub Inspector Ramesh Tamang was unloading a magazine from his pistol in his bedroom inside the police station on Friday night,” reads a press statement issued by Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur on Saturday.

The incident took place at 9:15 pm yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off that the  boom of a gunshot went off at Metropolitan Police Sector, Lankuribhanjyang, a police team led by SP Shekhar Khanal had been deployed to the incident site.

Shrestha, whose duty station is at Metropolitan Disaster Management Office, Samakhusi had gone to visit Tamang, chief of Metropolitan Police Sector, Lankuribhanjyang and were staying in the bedroom of Tamang when the incident took place.

Both Shrestha and Tamang are from Baiteshwar rural municipality in Dolakha .They are friends. 

Shrestha has been referred to Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajgunj after preliminary treatment at Kist Hospital, Imadol.

Meanwhile, a five-member investigation team led by DSP Gautam Mishra from Metropolitan Police Range Office, Satdobato has been formed to look into the case.
